AI, the Silent Partner in Strategic Communications

By Silvia Juliana Parra Cañas

Social, corporate, internal, external, political, governmental, and interpersonal communication is undergoing a metamorphosis driven by artificial intelligence. From message personalization to response automation, let us explore how companies — and even public figures — could adopt it to deliver memorable strategies.

Here are some ways in which AI is integrating into communications strategies:

  • Data and trend analysis: AI can analyze large volumes of data to identify trends, patterns, and perceptions in online conversations and on social networks. This enables companies to better understand customer opinions and brand perception, which in turn can inform communications strategies.

  • Audience segmentation: AI can use demographic data, online behavior, and other signals to segment the audience into more specific groups. This allows communications to be tailored and personalized more effectively for different audience segments.

  • Marketing and customer service automation: AI can automate repetitive tasks in marketing and customer service, such as answering frequently asked questions, sending personalized emails, and recommending relevant content. This saves time and resources, allowing communications professionals to focus on more strategic tasks.

  • Content generation: some AI tools can generate basic content, such as financial reports, status updates, and automated responses on social networks. Although this capability is still in development, it could free communications teams to focus on more creative and strategic content creation.

But mind you: nobody knows the company's DNA better than the communications team itself. The best copy emerges naturally.

  • Media and sentiment monitoring: AI can scan media and social networks to identify relevant brand mentions and assess the overall sentiment around the company. This enables companies to respond quickly to crisis situations or seize opportunities.

  • Chatbots and virtual assistants: AI-powered chatbots can interact with customers in real time, providing instant answers to common questions and redirecting users to relevant resources. This improves the customer experience and can help resolve issues.

  • Trend prediction: AI can analyze historical and current data to predict future market trends, which can be valuable for planning campaigns and communications strategies.

  • Content personalization: with AI, companies can create highly personalized content for each user, based on their preferences and prior behavior. This increases the relevance and effectiveness of communications.

Spotify uses AI to create personalized playlists based on users' musical tastes and preferences. The platform analyzes listening history and generates playlists that match each listener's mood and interests.

The above allows the communications team to focus engagement campaigns according to users' preferences. AI is an ally — or a silent partner, but a very effective one. Only if we use it in the best possible way.
